The Integration of BMC® Performance Manager to Microsoft's MOM 2000 OR MOM 2005 OR System Center Operations Manager (SCOM2007) gives organizations unprecedented visibility and management of their IT infrastructure by viewing the Microsoft and Unix/Linux/Other operating systems in the same view.

With the integration, organizations will now be capable of forwarding MOM/SCOM events through to BMC Performance Manager enabling joint BMC Software and Microsoft customers to better manage and understand how MOM/SCOM events affect the business.

KEY FUNCTIONALITY OF THE INTEGRATION MODULE
The Integration communicates with MOM/SCOM and BMC Performance Manager in the following way:

• Retrieves new and updated events from MOM or SCOM 2007
• Sends selected MOM/SCOM events to the Performance Manager Agent
• Events can be viewed and managed by the Performance Manager Console
• Receives updated events from the Performance Manager Agent
• Forwards updated events to MOM/SCOM
• Integrates with BMC's PEM via BPM
  

INTEGRATION FEATURES

• The features offered by MOM/SCOM to BPM Integration are determined by the supporting technologies:
  Microsoft System Center Operations Manager® (SCOM 2007/MOM 2007): MOM/SCOM Administration Console provides tools to develop and customize the Management Pack.
• Microsoft Connector Framework (MCF): MCF provides external programs read/write access to MOM/SCOM events.
• BMC Performance Manager®: BPM Agent provides the capability to store, manage and propagate events. BMC Performance Manager Console OR BMC PEM are its user interfaces.
• BMC PATROL API: The public API is the primary way for 3rd-party systems to communicate with BMC Performance Manager Agent.

The MOM/SCOM to BPM Integration has been developed using Windows Managed C++ to take advantage of .NET technology and BMC Performance Manager API.

Bi-directional synchronization
Integration provides Bi-directional synchronization of MOM/SCOM-originated events between MOM/SCOM and BMC Performance Manager. MOM/SCOM events will be periodically polled by the Integration and sent to a BMC Performance Manager Agent. Event updates from the BMC Performance Manager Agent will be event-driven.

Customizable event filter and translation mapping
Integration provides customizable configuration files for the user to modify the event filter. Only selected SCOM/MOM events that pass the event filter will be forwarded to BMC Performance Manager. Integration provides customizable configuration files for the user to modify the translation mapping between SCOM/MOM event attributes and BMC Performance Manager event attributes.

Secure communication
Integration provides secured communication between the integration and BMC Performance Manager and between the Integration and MOM/SCOM. By using the MCF Web service, the Integration can communicate across firewalls.

High performance and scalability
Integration can have multiple instances running on the same hosts. By using the BMC Performance Manager API, the Integration is very efficient and accommodates large volumes of data. The Integration is scalable since each MOM/SCOM instance can be configured to communicate with a dedicated BMC Performance Manager Agent.

Patrol Agent Fail-over/Fail-back
Since the BMC Performance Manager Agent is the receiving end of new MOM/SCOM events, Fail-over/Fail-back is implemented. The primary BMC Performance Manager Agent and fail-over Agents can be specified in the configuration file.

Heartbeat/Automatic retry
Integration will provide reliable communication with notifications to BMC Performance Manager and MOM/SCOM when the communication channel is dropped and automatic communication retry.
